So you’ve decided to work on your fitness goals. Addressing your eating needs to be part of the equation. What’s your plan? Are you going to do Paleo? Or Weight Watchers? The Dash Diet, The Flexitarian Diet? Give up sugar? Count calories? Become a vegetarian? I’m not going to tell you what to eat. That needs to be your decision. I will just help you stick to your plan.
Spontaneous eating is said to be the down fall of dieters. Some people plan a week ahead, some plan in the morning for the day. Just come up with a plan about planning. Then write it down. There are plenty of apps available to help you with tracking your food. Journaling can be an eye opening experience. Most of us eat more than we think we do. As a therapist, I would love it if you also wrote about how you were feeling before, during and after your meal. But I don’t want to overwhelm you. We can stick to the basics for now. Log what you ate, how much and when. For the past few years my plan has been Michael Pollan’s, “Eat real Food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” It’s the not too much part that I struggle with. I need to get honest too. For the next 6 weeks, I’m going to keep a food diary too. We can do anything for 6 weeks!
